Candidate Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register with Supertemps?
In the first instance we ask that you forward your CV along with a covering letter explaining the kind of work and hours which you are seeking. If you do not have a CV we can send out an application form for you to complete and return to us. After receiving and reading through your application we will contact you. We take pride in the fact that we do acknowledge every CV we receive. If an interview is appropriate an appointment is made and some skills testing is undertaken. This is an opportunity for us to gather more information about your previous experience, future job aspirations and the skills you have. We will ask you to supply details of referees at this stage as well as proof of identification and your National Insurance number. References will need to be taken up prior to our sending you out on any assignment.
Does it cost to register with Supertemps?
No. Our service to candidates is absolutely free. We do not charge you a fee and we do not deduct anything from your hourly pay rate (apart from statutory deductions, of course!).
The name "Supertemps" implies temporary work. Does Supertemps also deal with permanent vacancies ?
Very much so, yes. This has become a large part of the work we undertake. We deal with temporary, permanent and contract vacancies – temporary work is just a small part of what we do. We are regularly seeking to fill permanent vacancies offered by the crème de la crème of local employers.
How long do temporary assignments last?
The duration of our assignments varies. If the position is for last-minute sickness cover it may be as short as just one day. Some positions are to cover for annual leave so may be for a couple of weeks. Many positions are longer term and can be for several months. At interview we will discuss further the duration of assignments to which you would be most suited.
Am I under obligation to accept every position Supertemps offers me?
Absolutely not. We will not be offended if you turn down a position. Be as specific as possible in your application as to the type, location and working hours of the positions you require – this will help prevent us from offering you unsuitable placements. If you are unavailable for an assignment we offer, we will merely call again when we have something else suitable (unless you instruct us otherwise).
If I want to take holidays will I be paid for them?
Yes, for each day you work through Supertemps you will accrue holiday pay. Currently you can accrue up to 20 days paid leave per year. From October
2007 this will rise to 24 days and again later on to 28 days annual paid
leave, which is accrued on a pro rata basis.
I have no transport, are you going to send me from one end of North Wales to the other?
No, not unless you are prepared to do so. We aim to offer candidates work as close to where they live as possible to prevent unreasonable transport costs.
I have taken a career break for the past few years, would this hinder my chances with Supertemps?
Not necessarily, no. Our assessments are based on both the skills you have now and your previous experience. If you have maintained your skills, have an enthusiastic approach to work and are available then your chances are very high.
If I register with Supertemps, will this prevent me from seeking work elsewhere?
No. We understand that many of our candidates are actively seeking permanent employment through various channels. We just ask that you keep us posted as to your progress so that we can amend our records accordingly.
Can temporary positions lead on to permanent work?
In many situations they do, though this is not always the case. Temping could be a good way for you to find out what kind of organisation you would be most suited to on a permanent basis – large or small, public or private sector and what kind of role would suit you best. If it is only permanent work that interests you we can keep your details on our database until something suitable arises.
