A COMPANY director is swapping the comfort of her office for the rugged terrain of Snowdonia as she prepares to face one of the UK’s toughest mountain challenges.

Sarah Patterson is taking on the Welsh 3000s Mountain Challenge to raise much-needed funds for Conwy’s Hope House Hospice.

The challenge entails scaling all fifteen of the peaks in Snowdonia, which are over 3000ft – in less than 24 hours.

However, Sarah, who hopes to raise £800, is confident of success. “we’ve trained hard and covered all the individual mountain ranges previously,” said the Old Colwyn woman, who will be accompanied by teammate Tim Underhill. “On Saturday the test is going to be putting all the legs together after having limited sleep on Snowdon’s summit. Obviously we’re also very much at the mercy of the weather”.

The entire route is 27 miles long and contains a total ascent of 13,000 ft. To date the record for completing the challenge is 4 hours 19 minutes as set by fell runner Colin Donnelly on 11th June 1988. It remains one of the finest routes and mountain challenges in the British Isles today.

Hope House Hospice opened in Conwy in 2004 and provides invaluable support for terminally ill children and their families. Without the services offered by the hospice the lives of the many young children it helps, and their families, would be tremendously difficult.
